The Innovation Law Club Africa (ILCA) is a community of technology law specialists and enthusiasts across the African continent. We are focused on bridging the literacy, collaboration, and policy gaps in the innovation and technology law space in Africa. As a community, the ILCA currently comprises lawyers, legal scholars, policymakers, institutions, and innovators who are interested in coming together to address uniquely African issues especially as they relate to technology and law. At the apex of the community’s structure are some of the most respected and influential technology law specialists in Africa from some of the largest firms in Africa.

Job Brief 

The Administrative Associate will serve as an ad-hoc consultant at the ILCA, perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks, and assist project leads in various capacities within the ILCA. The ideal person should be able to support the organization’s functions according to circumstances and needs.

On a daily basis, the role will create correspondences, take minutes during meetings, prepare reports and concept notes, manage calendars to schedule appointments, sort mail, prepare invoices and offer general team support. The Administrative Associate will also participate in strategic initiatives by creating and maintaining cross-departmental relationships to enable organisational success.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating and reviewing internal and external communications:  reports, pitch decks, memos, minutes, transcripts,  presentations, and proposals.
  • Strategically managing the communication channels at the ILCA; email, calendars, etc.
  • Assuming day-to-day responsibility for projects and tasks
  • Scheduling meetings and appointments, processing and direct mails to the right team,
  • Creating and maintaining cross-departmental relationships to enable team, leadership, and organisational success
  • Finding ways to improve administrative processes

  • Prior administrative, leadership, or managerial experience.

  • Emotional intelligence, empathy, and good at assessing motivations, desires, needs, and intangibles

  • Business Development, Partnerships & Fundraising (BPF)

Our BPF team is responsible for establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships and relationships with donors, companies, law firms, educational institutions, and organizations with similar objectives to the ILCA. The nature of the partnership could be project-based or long-term. (Partners need not be limited to the African continent.) The team is also responsible for driving and improving the organization’s market position and financial growth. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to raising funds, developing value propositions, and identifying and implementing strategic projects in line with the mission of the ILCA.

  • Capacity Building and Community Engagement 

The team is responsible for the continual development of the knowledge and expertise of members of the ILCA, and driving the core value propositions of the ILCA. Major activities include establishing mentorship programs and fellowships, organising webinars on knowledge development and career projections, securing internship and fellowship opportunities, sharing scholarship and employment opportunities. The team is also responsible for onboarding new chapters and expanding the ILCA across the African continent.

  • Research, Insights & Policy

The team is responsible for developing and implementing research-based projects leveraging internal and external networks and working groups to release written research works, podcasts, magazines, reports, and policy statements.

  • Design & Digital Platforms

The team is responsible for ILCA’s design and digital strategy, ideation, and implementation. Major activities and outputs include graphics designs, audiovisuals, general content creation, social media, and website management.
