From the creation of the Internet to the invention of computers, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things; and from the advancement in nanotechnology to the rise in computing power, technology continues to change the way we live and work—it is aiding the reconceptualization and delivery of goods and services, changing the dynamics of how we relate with our environment, and making our lives easier.
A tool of social engineering, law constantly seeks to regulate how technology is developed and used: the persistent interaction between law and technology is creating new opportunities and challenges for lawyers, and innovators. But despite the increasing demand for technology lawyers, we note that there is a huge literacy gap in the innovation and technology law space.
Recognizing this, we founded the Innovation Law Club Africa in 2019 to engage and empower lawyers and law students on a wide spectrum of innovation and technology law issues, encourage professional collaboration and cooperation among technology law specialists, encourage interdisciplinary and scientific research that promotes innovation law in Africa, and support the creation of innovation law as a specialized field of study in African Faculties of Law.
We are building a vibrant community of lawyers, legal scholars, law researchers, policymakers and advocates, institutions, and innovators.
